About Pilates
STOTT PILATES™ is the contemporary approach to the original exercise method created by Joseph Pilates. STOTT™ preserves the essence of Pilates' original teachings but enhances them with modern biomechanical knowledge and input from such health professionals as physical therapists and chiropractors. It is a system of "mind-body" exercises that is ideal for both strengthening the weak and challenging the strong.
WHAT IS PILATES?
Pilates is a form of strength training that emphasizes core stability with mobility. It targets the muscles around the joints and helps to strengthen the body from the inside out.
It strengthens the muscles that stabilize the spine such as the deep abdominal muscles, the pelvic floor, and the deep back muscles. Regular practice can improve posture, strength, athletic performance, balance, flexibility, circulation and alignment. Pilates not only reduces stress but dramatically reduces the potential for injury by emphasizing quality movements rather than quantity. Focus and controlled breathing are essential elements that make Pilates a workout for the mind and the body.
The 500 exercises in the Pilates repertoire are performed on the Mat, Cadillac, Reformer, Stability Chair, Ladder Barrel and other small pieces of equipment.
